Goodie Mob member and Gnarls Barkley front-man, Cee-Lo [click to read], plans to release his new solo album on a revived Elektra label. The label, which has been dormant since 2004, will be relaunched through Atlantic Records and will consist of two new presidents, John Janick and Mike Caren, who hope to lead the once prominent label back to the top of the charts.
"We are planning on building an eclectic brand," Janick says. "We're looking for artists with potential. We're not an incubator label; we're going to develop artists and get them to the next level."
Throughout the '90s, Elektra was home to Hip Hop artists including Busta Rhymes with Leaders Of The New School, MF DOOM with KMD, Brand Nubian and Pete Rock & CL Smooth.
Along with Cee-Lo, the newly launched Elektra label has signed French duo, Justice and U.K. dance artist, Little Boots. The label, which was revived on its 60th anniversary, has plans to first release a Little Boots album and then move forward by releasing albums by Cee-Lo Green and Justice within the next year respectively. Cee-Lo, who most recently released the critically acclaimed The Odd Couple [click to read] with Dangermouse as apart of Gnarls Barkley, plans to release his solo album either in the 4th quarter of this year or in early 2010 according to Caren.
